PETALING JAYA: The MCM series vehicle plate number seems to be hot and much wanted since even the Malacca state government has allegedly spent more that RM200,000 to buy it. This was revealed by Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) today.
Its chairman R Sri Sanjeevan said that MyWatch received a document from an anonymous whistleblower listing the winners for the MCM series: from MCM 2 to MCM 11.
With the exception of numbers MCM 6 and MCM 8, the other numbers in the list were bought by the Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron and individuals claimed to be associated or affiliated with him or his administration.
Sanjeevan was amazed that the Malacca CM’s office paid a fortune for a fancy MCM plate number which can be translated to Malacca Chief Minister (“MCM”).
“We are amazed to see Malacca Chief Minister’s office spend more than RM200k on fancy car-plate,” said Sanjeevan in an e-mail.
Among the other individuals who won their bids for the MCM series that MyWatch claimed to be close to Idris and his office were Isnin Aman, Rosli Hasan and Fadilah Abdullah.
Sanjeevan also demanded to know if these individuals had used their own money or was it the state that funded their bidding and purchase of the number plates.
“MyWatch demand an explanation on this matter from Chief Minister of Malacca Idris Haron as he should be held accountable for every penny spent from taxpayers’ fund,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Malacca chief minister told an online portal that he had not used public funds to purchase the plate numbers.
“I ask them (MyWatch) to check first… the government is not as stupid as they think to use public money to buy plate numbers,” he said, without confirming or denying the alleged purchases.
Neither Idris nor the Malacca Road Transport Department could be reached for comment by FMT.
